65 Years After: Is Nigeria Truly Independent?

Dear Nigerians,
As we mark 65 years of independence, it is worth asking ourselves: Are we truly independent? Are we truly growing as a nation?
Beyond the celebrations, the reality stares us in the face: insecurity everywhere, leaders who begged for our votes now beyond our reach, and citizens divided by politics, tribe, and religion.
When will we, as a nation, rise above tribalism, political bigotry, and religious sentiments to demand accountability from those in power? When will we stand together, as one people, to defend our future?
A Nigeria that works for all regardless of tribe, religion, or social status is possible. But it starts with self-reflection: Are you supporting what is right, or are you excusing evil simply because it benefits “your people,” “your religion,” or “your party”?
If we fail to act, we risk repeating the cycle of “E go better” that our fathers told us, that we now tell ourselves, and that we may sadly pass on to our children with nothing truly changing.
On this Independence Day, let us remember: we are Nigerians first, before politics, before tribe, and before religion.
We pray to Olódùmarè to touch the hearts of our leaders, to stop killing us, to stop putting our lives in the line of their political games, and to grant us, the people under them, the wisdom, courage, and grace to be better, to stand together, and to hold leaders accountable.
A better Nigeria is not a dream. It is a choice.
A Nigeria 🇳🇬 that works for Nigerians is possible.
Happy Independence Day to the country we call ours. 🕊️💔🫶🫂
