EndSARS Memorial: We Remember 20/10/20

October 20, 2025

Today, we pause to remember our heroes, the brave Nigerians who, in 2020, took a bold stand for justice, peace, and accountability. They marched under the banner of #EndSARS, calling for an end to police brutality and the abuse of power.
Their protest was peaceful, their voices sincere. But the movement was hijacked and twisted against them. They were labeled as destroyers of peace, while in truth, they only sought a better nation. Many were killed in cold blood, their dreams silenced at the Lekki Toll Gate and across the country.
A nation that sheds innocent blood can not prosper. A country that avoids accountability can not progress.
The president who presided over that dark chapter is no longer with us. Whatever judgment awaits him before his Maker is unknown, but one thing is certain: the blood of the innocent will continue to cry out for justice.

5 years after
As we remember those who lost their lives on October 20, 2020, we reflect on their hope that their sacrifice would lead to a better Nigeria. Sadly, that hope remains unfulfilled. The Nigeria they dreamed of has not yet come to life. Instead, the situation has grown worse.
Today, history nearly repeated itself. Activist Omoyele Sowore once again took to the streets in a peaceful call for justice and freedom, demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu, but was forced to flee for safety. It is a painful reminder that freedom of expression remains under threat in our country.
Nigeria remains divided by tribe, by religion, by politics. We are yet to unite for what is right. Those who defend injustice because it benefits their group, party, or faith must remember: the injustice you defend today may one day turn against you or your loved ones.
If you acknowledge this truth, then it is time to change to think beyond division and to act with conscience and humanity.
We have not forgotten.
The memories remain fresh in our hearts.
Rest in peace, our fallen heroes.
Nigeria failed you, but your courage continues to inspire us. 💔🕊🇳🇬
