Lesson 019
Module Three Review – What Have We Learned?
Congratulations!
You have completed another journey in Omolola TalksTV Yàrá Ìkẹ́kọ̀ọ́.
This module has reminded us that Yoruba language is not always about finding one-word answers.
Sometimes it is about understanding the culture behind the words.
What Have We Learned?
• An Olóyè is associated with honour, recognised traditional status, and responsibility.
• An Ìjoyè is commonly understood as someone who has been formally installed into a recognised traditional title, although usage may vary across Yoruba communities.
• Many people use the two words interchangeably because of their close relationship.
• Different Yoruba kingdoms may preserve different expressions and traditions.
• Respecting those differences is also part of preserving Yoruba culture.
Perhaps the greatest lesson of this module is that preserving a language also means preserving the history, traditions, and experiences of the people who speak it.
There will always be room to learn.
There will always be room to ask questions.
And there will always be room to appreciate the wisdom of our ancestors.
Thank you for joining us once again in Omolola TalksTV Yàrá Ìkẹ́kọ̀ọ́.
We look forward to learning with you in our next module.
Next Module
Bàálẹ̀, Mogaji & Aare
Three respected traditional titles.
Three different responsibilities.
Are they the same?
Join us as we continue discovering the beauty and depth of the Yoruba language.
Editor's Note
The meanings and usage of traditional Yoruba titles may vary across different kingdoms and communities. This module presents the most widely accepted understanding while respectfully acknowledging those regional variations.
