EPISODE 2

The Message

Omotola woke up to sunlight pushing through her curtains.

And a notification.

Unknown number.

“I don’t believe in coincidence.

And neither should you.”

Her stomach tightened.

Only one person spoke like that.

Tade.

She stared at the message for a full minute before replying.

“Are you always this dramatic?”

His response came instantly.

“Only when it matters.”

She swallowed.

Her phone buzzed again.

“Breakfast. 10 a.m. Don’t make me come downstairs.”

Her heart skipped.

How did he know she was home?

Before she could overthink it, another message appeared.

“Relax. Your delivery guy just left. You collect packages like someone building an empire.”

She froze.

He had noticed that?

She typed carefully.

“You observe too much.”

A pause.

Typing…

“I pay attention to things I’m interested in.”

Her breath caught.

This wasn’t small talk anymore.

By 10:07 a.m., she was sitting across from him at a small café two streets away.

He looked different this morning. Quieter. More deliberate.

He wasn’t smiling.

He was studying her.

“Why did you really move here?” she asked.

He leaned back slightly.

“I was tired of where I was.”

“That’s not an answer.”

Their eyes locked.

“I needed a fresh start.”

There was something in his voice. Something heavy. Something unfinished.

Before she could push further, his phone lit up on the table.

A name flashed across the screen.

Aisha.

He flipped the phone over quickly.

Too quickly.

Omotola noticed.

And for the first time since the generator went off…

She didn’t like what she felt.
